Baldur Burwitz (Germany)

Born in 1971, Baldur Burwitz is a German conceptual artist who lives and works in Hamburg and Berlin. He studied at the Braunschweig University of Art, earning a Master of Fine Arts in 2004 under Professors Raimund Kummer and Bogomir Ecker. Working across installation, performance, sculpture, and site-specific interventions, Burwitz creates humorous yet critical works that examine the intersections of society, politics, ecology, and contemporary culture. His practice is driven by ideas rather than medium, embracing any form that best communicates the concept.

Burwitz has received numerous international scholarships and residencies, including grants from Stiftung Kunstfonds, Hollufgård Artist Residence (Denmark), Quartierskünstler Veddel, and the Nanji Art Studio Residency in Seoul. His work has been exhibited widely at institutions such as ZKM Karlsruhe, MARTa Herford, Kunsthalle Osnabrück, Hamburger Kunstverein, the National Gallery in Prague, Gyeongnam Art Museum in South Korea, and venues across Europe, Asia, and South America. Alongside his artistic practice, he has served as a visiting professor at Hongik University and Gachon University in South Korea. His current long-term project, In Eighteen Around the World, investigates climate change, ecological crises, and social transformation through site-specific artistic interventions that encourage critical reflection and global responsibility.

Sumana Akter (Bangladesh)

Sumana Akter (b. 1983, Narayanganj, Bangladesh) is a multidisciplinary visual artist whose practice spans performance, video, installation, drawing, painting, and textile-based works. She received her BFA from the Narayanganj Fine Arts Institute in 2008 and her MFA in Drawing and Painting from the University of Development Alternative (UoDA), Dhaka, in 2010. Based in Dhaka, she is a lecturer at the Narayanganj Fine Arts Institute and the founder of Daag Art Station, an independent platform supporting contemporary art. Akter’s work critically examines environmental degradation, gender inequality, social injustice, and political repression through participatory and community-engaged practices. Working across diverse media, she often invites public interaction, transforming personal experiences into universal reflections on memory, identity, and collective responsibility. Her acclaimed performance Scream, first presented in 2018, calls on audiences to break their silence in the face of violence, ecological destruction, and social indifference. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including the Asian Art Biennale Bangladesh, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Dhaka Art Center, the Dhaka Art Summit, Japan–Bangladesh Art Exhibition in Tokyo, and numerous contemporary art exhibitions. Through an interdisciplinary and socially engaged practice, Sumana Akter continues to contribute significantly to the evolving landscape of contemporary Bangladeshi art.

Rony Chondro Mondol (Bangladesh)

Rony Chondro Mondol is a Dhaka-based visual artist whose practice explores contemporary social realities through painting, drawing, and mixed-media works. He earned both his Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Fine Arts in Drawing and Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka. Inspired from an early age by his father, Mondol developed a lifelong commitment to artistic practice, continually expanding his visual language through experimentation with materials, techniques, and concepts.

Alongside his studio practice, Mondol actively participates in national and international workshops, symposiums, and art camps, fostering cultural exchange and creative collaboration. His dedication to artistic excellence has received international recognition, including the Grand Award at the Bangabandhu International Art Exhibition in Japan. Through his work, he investigates themes of identity, memory, and the human condition, balancing technical precision with expressive forms. Mondol continues to contribute to Bangladesh’s contemporary art scene through exhibitions, collaborative projects, and an ongoing commitment to innovation, making him one of the emerging voices of his generation.
